Dave Harper Greeves Championship for Scramblers and Motocross bikes
Step back in time and throttle forward with the Dave Harper Greeves Championship Series, a thrilling motocross competition dedicated to Greeves motorcycles produced between 1954 and 1973. This unique series celebrates the legacy of these iconic bikes, from the robust Iron barrelled Hawkstones of the 1950s to the powerful 380cc Griffon QUBs of the 1970s, through a dynamic bonus points system designed to level the playing field and ignite the competitive spirit in riders of all ages.
Conceived by the late and great Dave Harper, a former Greeves employee whose boundless passion and encyclopaedic knowledge of all things Greeves, kindled this racing tradition, the series stands as a tribute to his memory and his commitment to inclusivity and enjoyment in the sport.
Dave's legacy lives on in the camaraderie and competitiveness of the series, underpinned by stories of sportsmanship that embody the spirit of motocross, like the tale of two eager young riders dicing aggressively at the front who were reminded by Geof Nunn (the gearbox whisperer) and Dave’s no 2 at events that:
“The true prize of winning a Greeves race isn't a Honda contract in supercross, but the glory and respect of your fellow riders”
Since its inaugural race in 2001 in Maylandsea, Essex, the Dave Harper Greeves Championship has grown exponentially, now drawing nearly thirty-five riders to its ranks and spanning multiple classic motorcycle clubs across England. This series isn't just about competition; it's a vibrant community event that celebrates the history, the excitement, and the pure joy of motocross.
Join us in 2024 as we continue to honour Dave's memory and the illustrious history of Greeves motorcycles. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or new to the scene, the Dave Harper Greeves Championship offers a warm welcome and the chance to be part of a legacy that's as thrilling today as it was over half a century ago. Come for the race, stay for the heritage, and ride into history with us.
