Advanced engine tuning, ignition, and exhausts
GRD Greeves Griffons:
Are a development of the original Greeves Griffon QUB 380cc and the Greeves Griffon 250cc.
We always start with suspension and chassis set-up before increasing power.
Whatever your choice of suspension you need to ensure it is correctly set for rider weight and application. Suspension and chassis set-up are often overlooked. This results in a bike that is unpleasant to ride and difficult to control. Ride height, rider SAG, suspension damping, steering geometry, rear pivot position all need to be considered. Other chassis considerations would be braking performance, weight saving and weight placement (sprung and unsprung) and even tyre choice and pressures.
The GRD “works” bikes use needle roller bearing crank main bearing conversions, Maico 440 con-rods. The 400cc uses a Maico piston and the 250cc a Suzuki piston. Both have heavily modified porting design including additional transfer ports, altered port durations and shapes. The cylinder head squish band machined to match the pistons and combustion chambers redesigned. Gearboxes are original in terms of components but superfinished to increase durability and reduce friction. Clutches are replaced with lightweight NEB units.
Expansion chambers are bespoke and are designed to match the engine state of tune and rider preference.
Maximum power doesn’t necessarily mean fastest lap time!!
GRD ignition kits are fitted to all our bikes. These are a much more reliable option over the original and provide improved ignition advance curve.
Carburation is via Mikuni and jetted to match the engine. It is worth remembering that tuning a 2 stroke is multi-faceted, all aspects need to work together to get the optimum package.
Performance engine tuning is all well and good but unless the bike handles correctly you will not see improvements in lap time.
